FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 27, 2025
Support the Cause for Beatification of Franciscan Martyr Fray Casimiro Cypher, OFM Conv.
While there has been no active solicitation of donations for the Cause for Fr. Casimir Michael Cypher, OFM Conv., some people have been inspired and have asked where they could make a donation to assist with the costs of the Cause Process.
Donations can be made to the Conventual Franciscan Friars at the Province of Our Lady of Consolation [OLC] at https://www.franciscansusa.org/donate/ . On this secure website, there is both a donation form for contributions by mail, and a link to donate via credit card. The Dedication can be in ‘Honor of’ or ‘Memory of’, but in the ‘Who Do you want to recognize’ block, please enter “For the Process of Fray Casimiro”.
At the OLC province, the funds will be placed into an account that can be transferred to the province in Central America where the vice postulator for the Cause, Fray Juan Pagoada OFM Conv. and others can make use of them for the process.
Fray Casimiro Cypher, born in Medford, Wisconsin, in 1941, was a Conventual Franciscan priest who dedicated his life to serving the poor. Ordained in 1968, he arrived in Honduras in 1973 to minister in the remote region of Olancho. On June 25, 1975, at the age of 34, he was brutally tortured and executed alongside Father Iván Betancourt and twelve campesino leaders during a violent clash over land reform. Known locally as “Padre Casimiro,” he ran toward the danger to protect and minister to those in need, embodying the Gospel call to serve the marginalized.
The formal process for his beatification and potential canonization is underway, with ongoing efforts to gather testimonies, historical documentation, and support from the Church in Honduras and beyond.
The friars express gratitude for all prayers and support in honoring Fray Casimiro’s heroic witness.
